Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
